Police: Son kills father in Federal Way shooting

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Police responded to the scene of a fatal shooting in which a man shot and killed his father Wednesday morning, according to Federal Way police spokesman Kurt Schwan.

The police department first tweeted about the shooting at a home in the 200 block of Southwest 305th Street at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday.

People living next door recall hearing several gunshots ring out just before 7:30 a.m.

Police arrived to find a 45-year-old man dead in the backyard of the home where he lived.

The 22-year-old son was detained and there is no threat to the community, according to Federal Way police. Investigators have determined the incident followed a domestic violence dispute amongst family members.

Schwan said detectives have yet to determine which man is the suspect and which is the victim.

Federal Way police brought the son to the station where they spent hours questioning him.

Neighbors expressed condolences to the family. They want to know what led to this deadly exchange.

People who know the family describe them as friendly.

“Very sad situation,” said neighbor Heather Hamman. “My heart goes out to the family, that’s for sure.”
