No arrests made yet in deadly CHOP shooting

One man was killed and another is in critical condition after a shooting early Saturday in Capitol Hill.

No arrests have yet been made and the Seattle Police Department is actively investigating.

Authorities reported that officers responded to the shooting at 10th Avenue and East Pine Street at 2:30 a.m., inside the occupied protest zone known as CHOP or CHAZ.

In a blotter post, the Seattle Police Department said that officers tried to find the victim but reported that they “were met by a violent crowd that prevented officers safe access to the victims.”

They were later told that the two men were taken to Harborview Medical Center by CHOP medics.

A representative from the hospital later said that a 19-year-old man died. The teen’s friends identified him as Lorenzo Anderson, a local rapper who goes by the name “Lil Mob.”

The other shooting victim is in critical condition.

The suspect fled the scene and police do not have a description.

SPD is asking anyone with information about the shooting, or who may have a video recording of the shooting, to call 206-233-5000.

Property owners in the area told KIRO 7 that they are upset about the ongoing crime and have sent a letter to the city begging for solutions.

Seattle City Councilmember Kshama Sawant expressed her condolences and said the “Socialist Alternative and I stand in solidarity with the family and friends of the victim, and with the injured protester now in the hospital, as well as with all community members and fellow activists.”

The zone has drawn the continued ire of President Donald Trump. His tweets about possibly sending in the military have been met with condemnation from Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and Gov. Jay Inslee, both Democrats.

Asked about the shooting Saturday, Inslee said “We need to have a way for the community to have a way to speak and for police and fire services to be provided.”

He added: “One way or another we obviously need to provide a way to offer protection for people, and that’s a necessity.”
