Nippon Dynawave announces continued pay for workers after the Longview explosion

Longview paper mill implosion

LONGVIEW, Wash. — In a press release on Thursday, the Association for Western Pulp and Paper Workers (AWPPW) announced that employees at Nippon Dynawave Packaging would continue to receive pay through January 17, 2027, even if their departments cannot resume operations.

According to the association, the deal would allow employees in some departments to work online while others return in person to the mill.

The announcement comes after an explosion at the mill killed 11 of the company’s employees.

Bill Sauters, the union’s Washington area representative, said he hopes the plan will help the mill retain experienced workers and protect employees’ financial security.

“This is an important step forward for our members and the Longview community,” Tift said. “We carry the loss of our coworkers with us. Protecting the people who work here and securing the future of these jobs must go hand in hand.”
