National Weather Service upgrades Western Washington heat from ‘watch’ to ‘warning’

SEATTLE — After settling into a “heat watch” for the upcoming weekend, the National Weather Service upgraded the conditions on Thursday for the upcoming Western Washington weekend to an “excessive heat warning.”

The warning is in effect from 2 p.m. Friday until 1 p.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service is predicting dangerously hot conditions in the high 90s to low 100s for Sunday and Monday throughout most of Western Washington.

The warning specifies that the unusual warmth and record high temperatures will significantly increase the risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for the elderly, people who work outside and people without air conditioning.

If you need help finding relief, we have put together a list of places you can keep cool during the heat.
