EDMONDS, Wash. — South County Fire crews aboard the fire and rescue boat Marine 16 will wash bird droppings off the Port of Edmonds Marina breakwater on Monday.
South County Fire says the annual cleaning operation doubles as a training exercise to test Marine 16’s jet pump system, which pumps water from Puget Sound to extinguish fires.
The Port of Edmonds consulted with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to avoid impacting wildlife during the process. The marina will remain open throughout the cleaning.
South County Fire asked visiting boaters to exercise caution around the crew. “Thank you, boaters, for using extra caution and giving Marine 16 space to operate and pass with no wake,” the department stated.
