Man identified after wandering onto Everett road, hit by car and killed

A man is dead after wandering onto an Everett road and getting hit by a car, according to Everett police.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiners Office identified the man as Richard D. Nelson, 88, of Everett.

The medical examiner ruled the death as an accident.

The collision happened just before 7 a.m. on Monday in the 10100 block of Evergreen Way in Everett.

Everett police said the victim was 88-years-old and had some health problems.

When he wandered onto the road, several drivers swerved to avoid him, but one car ended up hitting and killing the man.

The driver of that car is cooperating with Everett police and has not been arrested.

All southbound lanes of Evergreen Way were closed down between 100th St. SW and SW Everett Mall Way and reopened just after 10 a.m.
