1 dead in officer-involved shooting in Bothell, investigators say

BOTHELL, Wash. — An officer-involved shooting resulted in the death of a man, Wednesday night in Bothell.

The incident began with officers responding to calls about someone slashing tires about 7:30 p.m. near the Salmon Run Apartments, located in the area of 228th Street Southeast and 20th Avenue Southeast.

A neighbor told KIRO 7 he heard about five gunshots by his apartment.

“It was pretty scary. I mean, I was shocked that it was right there next to where I live,” the man said.

Bothell police only said there was an officer-involved shooting by the road behind the apartment complex and that no officers were hurt.

That neighbor said he spoke with a woman who shed light on what led up to the gunfire.

“She said she was attacked by someone with a knife. I’m assuming that he was probably trying to flee and the police caught him,” the man said.

The shooting was the second officer-involved shooting in Bothell in two weeks.

“It’s pretty tough when you get the phone call, because you have a few flashbacks and I know we’re still recovering,” said Capt. Mike Johnson with Bothell police.

Snohomish County’s Multiple Agency Response Team will take over the investigation.

KIRO 7 spoke to a few of the man’s family and friends who were at the scene and they said it is possible that the man could have suffered some sort of mental health crisis. However, that information has not been confirmed.
