Richland PD OIS

PASCO, Wash. — A man was shot and killed by Richland police during a traffic stop in Pasco.

According to Richland police (RPD), members of the department’s Southeast Regional Internet Crimes Against Children (SER-ICAC) Task Force, K-9 Unit, Street Crimes Unit (SCU), and Criminal Investigations Division (CID) assisted with a multi-agency law enforcement operation in Pasco in the early morning hours of Oct. 21.

They made contact with the man, whom they identified as 47-year-old Christopher Derrick. Derrick was wanted for federal charges regarding the receipt and possession of child sexual abuse material, according to RPD.

During the operation, detectives pulled over Derrick’s vehicle near Road 103 and Argent Road in Pasco, close to Isaac Stevens Middle School.

Richland police said Derrick pulled out a weapon and was shot by Richland police.

It’s unclear how many shots were fired.

Derrick died at the hospital, RPD said.

The shooting is still under investigation.

The Tri-Cities Special Investigations Unit (SIU) will be taking over the investigation. This agency investigates police shootings independently from any internal investigations agencies may conduct.
