A man riding an electric scooter is recovering in the hospital after hitting a Metro bus near Seattle’s waterfront at Alaskan Way South and South Jackson Street.
The scooter rider, Jacob Royds, suffered multiple spinal fractures, two broken clavicles and facial fractures in the crash.
King County Metro says preliminary information suggests the southbound bus had a green light while Royds was in the crosswalk, though police have not confirmed this to KIRO 7.
No one aboard the bus was injured in the collision.
The crash occurred shortly after a personal milestone for Royds and his wife, Rebecca Holloman, who had eloped about a week and a half earlier.
Holloman learned about the incident after receiving a call from a stranger at the scene.
“My head was spinning,” she said. “I just immediately got up and ran to my car, and I had his location, so I just started driving toward that direction. Before I had even gotten there, he was already at Harborview.”
As Royds recovers, the couple is looking toward his future and how he will adapt when eventually returning to work in the hospitality business.
