YAKIMA, Wash. — Yakima police officers arrested a 29-year-old man yesterday for attempting to rob a Yakima BMO Bank with a machete.
According to a Yakima Police Department post on Facebook, police were sent to the BMO Bank at 522 E Yakima Ave around 5 p.m. yesterday, Aug. 10, after bank workers called and reported a man with a machete inside the bank.
The post also notes that the man was carrying several other “edged weapons” and that he called police around the same exact time saying that he “intended to rob the bank.”
Upon arrival, Yakima police officers helped to get the workers and everyone inside out of the bank.
Soon after, police, as well as the Yakima Valley Crisis Response Unit, began to negotiate with the machete-carrying man.
The man left the bank at about 7:30 p.m., according to the Yakima Herald.
He was arrested on scene for first-degree robbery, second-degree malicious mischief, second-degree computer trespassing, and weapons apparently capable of producing bodily harm, according to the post.
