SEATTLE — A 46-year-old man is in custody after threatening a man and police with a pipe in a Seattle alley.
Police said they received a report about 6:30 p.m. Monday that a man was near 2nd Avenue and Yesler Way wielding the pipe and refusing to let people pass through.
Officers said the man had brandished a 25-foot drain pipe at one man who was recycling boxes in the alley. That man barricaded himself behind a garbage can.
When police first arrived, they spoke to the man and explained to him he could not chase people out of the alley at “pipe-point,” officials said. The man told them that he believed he could, because he owned the alley.
Police said the man began moving toward them, screaming and ordering officers to “leave (his) alley."
After police negotiators arrived and spoke to the man for approximately two hours, he dropped the pipe and was taken into custody and booked into the King County Jail, officials said.
