Local Ukrainian association holds fundraiser for people trapped in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Association of Washington State held a fundraiser on Friday night in an effort to get first aid kits to people trapped in Ukraine.

The association got numerous people on board, including Governor Jay Inslee, who was in attendance.

A live auction was held at the 102-year-old “Polish Home” on Capitol Hill.

The “Bid for Ukraine” event was meant to help the association reach its goal of raising $250,000 by the end of April.

Some of the money is expected to go toward 3,000 individual first aid kits, which will go on the next aid flight to Ukraine.

Inslee said during his remarks that the Washington National Guard is working with the Washington Association of Sheriffs & Police Chiefs to find extra equipment such as coats and blankets to send to the “courageous” people of Ukraine.
