The Little Giant Fire burning in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest has burned 128,085 acres and is 7% contained as of Friday morning, fire officials confirmed.
The wildfire, which officials say was started by lightning, currently has 76 engines, 55 crews, 146 heavy equipment, 31 water tenders, 5 helicopters, and 2,266 personnel responding.
Fire Information
In a statement Sunday evening, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Department announced that despite the efforts of firefighters, the Little Giant Fire became “highly active” on Friday, destroying 26 structures.
On Monday, the sheriff’s office confirmed that the 26 structures included 2 primary residences, 3 cabins, and 21 outbuildings.
The office said that due to dangerous conditions caused by the fire, the area will remain restricted until it is safe for the public to reenter.
According to the Little Giant Fire Information Center, the fire crested hills near Lake Chelan on Saturday. The information center said Sunday a hotshot crew was en route to this area and will begin hiking up to the fire area to take suppression action to contain these spots.
Officials say fire activity was somewhat subdued Sunday night, providing firefighters an opportunity to secure control lines around structures.
Evacuations

Residents should be prepared for changes in evacuation levels, as fire conditions can change rapidly. Safety and Closures
Officials remind those in the area to stay near the shore and clear of firefighting aircraft scooping water from lakes and rivers.
There is an updated forest closure for portions of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in the area of the Little Giant Fire. For specific locations, closure order, and maps, visit the forest’s website here.
This closure prohibits entry or use of roads, recreation sites, and trails within a defined area within the Wenatchee River/Entiat Ranger Districts to ensure the safety of the public and firefighting resources during the Little Giant Fire.
Level 2 fire restrictions are in effect for public lands on the forest.
