Police: Man shoots 2 during interrupted truck theft outside Lynnwood hotel

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — A man is dead and a woman is hurt after they tried to steal a truck outside a hotel, according to Lynnwood police.

A KIRO 7 News crew arrived at the parking lot outside the Best Western Alderwood shortly before 5 a.m. to find a large police response on 36th Avenue West, just off 196th Street Southwest, behind the Lynnwood Event Center.

Police said that just after 2:30 a.m., a man who was staying at the hotel called 911 and said he had fired his gun after confronting a man and a woman who were stealing his truck.

Lynnwood officers arrived two minutes later to find a large truck with its engine still running. It was resting against the corner of a building and a man was slumped over in the driver’s seat.  A woman was sitting outside the truck with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

A man in his 30s was shot and killed. The woman was shot twice and was taken to a nearby hospital.

According to Lynnwood Police, the man staying at the hotel came out to the parking lot after he heard the distinctive sound of his diesel truck being started and moved.

Police said the man and woman who were shot had arrived in a car that was stolen out of Burien.

The shooting suspect is cooperating with investigators.

Police mapped out the crime scene using a drone and evidence markers were laid out in the parking lot.
