King County Courthouse closed after water main break

SEATTLE — The King County Courthouse is closed for the day Thursday after a nearby water main break.

The water started flowing at Third Avenue and Yesler in downtown Seattle just after midnight.

The King County Facilities Director told KIRO 7 it was the first time within five years that he could remember having to close the entire courthouse for a water main break.

The closure affects King County Superior Court, the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Sheriff operations in the courthouse, and Council operations.

A team from King County's Facilities Management Division is working with Seattle Public Utilities to restore water service.

The primary concerns are not having water in case of a fire and lack of water for toilet facilities.

The courthouse was not damaged as the main break is outside the building.
