Another weekend is here, and that means it is time to fall into some fun in the Seattle area.

Halloween Train and Turkfest bring fall fun this weekend

In Snoqualmie, get into the spirit of fall and Halloween with the Halloween Train. You’ll be able to see the fall colors as you go on a 90-minute train ride, and while on board, you’ll find the coaches decorated to fit the occasion. On the weekends, families can enjoy hot cider, complete with live cider-pressing demonstrations. There will also be crafts, photo opportunities, and live music. You’ll need a ticket to ride, but tickets are available for this weekend and throughout the month.

We are entering the final weekends of the Festál series at the Seattle Center, with this weekend’s celebration being Turkfest. This is a two-day celebration of Turkey and Turkish culture full of food, activities, workshops, vendors, and plenty more that celebrate Turkish heritage. Turkfest is free to attend and is on Saturday and Sunday at the Seattle Center.

Deaf Lit Fest celebrates artists; Discover Pass Free Day invites outdoor fun

Deaf Lit Fest is a festival all about spotlighting artists, authors, poets, and more who happen to be Deaf, DeafBlind, DeafDisabled, and Hard of Hearing. In addition to showing off their work, there will also be workshops, poetry readings, guest speakers, vendors, and lots more. There will be sessions and workshops designed for kids as well. Hugo House is hosting the event, and you will need a ticket to get in. Deaf Lit Fest opens tonight and runs through the weekend.

Saturday is World Mental Health Day, and one of the best ways to take care of your mental health is by spending a day outside in the great outdoors. To help make this possible, Saturday is a Discover Pass Free Day, meaning you will not need a Discover Pass to park at certain trailheads and parks. As always, plan for weather and more visitors!

Explore Seattle on foot with the Jimothy Jaunt and a Fremont scavenger hunt

The fall edition of the Seattle Super Saunter is here and got a rebrand honoring Ballard’s mascot Jimothy. The Jimothy Jaunt is a 10-mile, self-paced journey that will take you through the Fremont Market, the Ballard Farmers Market, the Locks, and Golden Gardens. Join for a mile or all 10 as you explore the city on foot with plenty of other walkers! The Jimothy Jaunt is Sunday, starting at the Phinney Neighborhood Center at 10 a.m.

The Fremont Neighborhood Council and Hunt the Universe are putting on an all-day scavenger hunt across Fremont. During the hunt, you’ll solve puzzles, discover the history of the neighborhood, and find a new area of the neighborhood you’ve never explored. Gather up your team of five to 10 and register online. Check-in for Hunt the Universe is at 8 a.m. at the Doric Lodge, with the event starting at 9 a.m. This event is free to attend, and all the rules and details can be found at hunttheuniverse.com.

Poetry and marching bands take the spotlight at local festivals

If you are a poet, and you know it, you’ll want to head to the Rainer Beach Community Club this weekend for the Cascadia Poetry Festival. This event is three days of live readings and workshops, and over a dozen poets will be sharing their work. You’ll need a ticket to get in, but this will be a perfect weekend event to help kick that writer’s block and a perfect opportunity to learn a new style or skill.

There will be nine Northwest high school bands competing at the Sunset Festival of Bands at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner. Not only is this a competition, but this festival provides real-time mentoring for high school marching bands and color guards! Sound Wave, the horn and drumline of the Seattle Sounders, will also be performing. You will need a ticket to get in, but all the action starts Saturday at 9 a.m.

How are you enjoying the Halloween season? Let me know at paulh@kiroradio.com.
