SEATTLE — A Japanese grocery store is opening its first Seattle store in Aurora, taking over the former Amazon Fresh space in North Seattle.

Hashi Market will move into a 35,715-square-foot space in a strip mall at 13025 Aurora Avenue N, according to The Puget Sound Business Journal.

The grocer will bring a variety of groceries, catering services, lifestyle items, and beauty and home essentials.

Former Amazon Fresh spaces get new uses across Seattle

Hashi Market will join several other tenants in the strip mall, such as Planet Fitness, Ulta Beauty, Ross Dress for Less, and Daiso.

In January, Amazon announced it would close all its Fresh and Go stores nationwide, with some converting into Whole Foods Market stores.

The former Amazon Fresh location in Aurora is the second to be replaced in just a week. On Sept. 28, Starbird Chicken held its grand opening inside the former Amazon Fresh space in West Seattle. Starbird took over 3,000 square feet of the 10,000-square-foot space.

Several other former Amazon Fresh spaces remain vacant across the Puget Sound area, including in Seattle’s Central District, Federal Way, and Factoria.

In 2024, Hashi Market opened its first U.S.location in New York and has since expanded to nine stores. Hashi plans to expand further with six more locations across California, Colorado, and Massachusetts, according to The Puget Sound Business Journal.
