Fatal shooting in Central District leads to short chase, arrest

SEATTLE — A 36-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday night in Seattle’s Central District.

Officers were called 7:40 p.m. to the 1400 block of 24th Avenue for reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound.

Lifesaving measures were performed on the victim, but he was later pronounced dead.

Additional officers who arrived at the scene saw a car fleeing and chased it for several blocks until driver crashed near 19th Avenue and East Cherry Street. He was arrested.

Witnesses told officers that the victim and the suspect were involved in a disturbance at an apartment complex, which led to the 36-year-old being shot in his stomach.

Police did not say what the confrontation was about.

After the suspect was arrested, officers said there was no danger to the public and that more information would be released on Monday.
