Snoqualmie, Stevens passes reopen following Tuesday’s snowy conditions

Many roadways have reopened after Tuesday’s snow caused some traffic troubles, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

I-90 was closed in both directions from North Bend to Ellensburg due to winter conditions for much of the day Tuesday. WSDOT said it would be an “extended closure” as crews faced numerous challenges including blizzard-like conditions and having a limited number of tow trucks.

Both directions of the interstate reopened at about 8:40 p.m., according to WSDOT. Chains are required on all vehicles unless you have all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive with approved traction tires.

SR 18 was closed in both directions between Issaquah-Hobart Road Southeast and the I-90 interchange due to multiple collisions and spinouts at about 12:20 p.m. It reopened just after 4:30 p.m., according to WSDOT.

US 2 to Stevens Pass was closed between mileposts 58 and 64.5 at around 12:30 p.m. due to adverse weather and multiple collisions. It reopened just before 6 p.m.

WSDOT says conditions are still treacherous and drivers will need to take it slow. If you’re heading across US 2, chains are required unless you have all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive.

US 2 is closed in both directions from milepost 84.5 at Coles Corner through Tumwater Canyon to milepost 99 in Leavenworth. Avalanche control is planned in the area and there is no estimated time for reopening.

US 12 was closed at the summit of White Pass and westbound near Naches at about 5 p.m. It reopened just after 8 p.m.
