Hundreds gather at Foster High School to honor Deejay Tuiasosopo

Vigil for Federal Way teen killed in DUI crash Deejay Tuiasosopo was a Federal Way High School student but transferred from Foster High School before he was hit and killed last Friday.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — TUKWILA, Wash. — Hundreds showed up at a memorial at Foster High School for a Federal Way student who was hit and killed last Friday.

Deejay Tuiasosopo was a Federal Way High School student but transferred from Foster High School before he was hit and killed last Friday.

Balloons were released and a moment of silence was held for the former Foster High School football player.

The student-athlete’s former football teammates lined the field to pay respects to his family and to grieve together with the Tukwila community.

“[Tuiasosopo] was an awesome person, someone you just loved to be around,” said Juliana Laufau. “Anywhere he stepped in, whether Federal Way, Tukwila, Auburn, he always left an imprint.”

The talented athlete was beloved off the field just as much as he was loved on it.

“I had leadership classes with him in 4th period, and it was just a spark from there,” said Taylin Phan.

Taylin Phan says she plans to keep his memory alive by talking about the good time she shared with him.

“Seeing them go through heartbreak has been hard for all of us,” said Ola Masaniai.

Ola Masaniai says she was in EPIC, Empowering Pacific Islander Club, at Foster High School with Tuiasosopo.

She says she is proud of seeing the community come out to support Tuiasosopo’s family and of his former football team paying tribute to him before their game on Friday night.

“I know these boys have been going through a really hard time because Deejay was family just as he was anybody else,” said Masaniai.
