The weather outlook for Saturday is... more of the same.
Morning clouds will be around the lowlands of Western Washington to start Saturday, but we’ll again have some afternoon sunshine.
Highs will be in the 70s in Seattle with haze continuing from distant wildfire smoke, though surface air quality won’t be too bad and fresher air will start blowing out the smoke west of the Cascades by late day into Saturday night.
However, the process is likely to be slow. While air quality will likely improve across southern parts of the area by Saturday afternoon and evening, some smoke and haze will likely be seen near the Cascades and the foothills, and across northern parts of the area.
A few afternoon and evening thunderstorms are likely again in the Cascades and east slopes on Saturday. Lightning will be the primary threat, though brief heavy rain will also occur in these areas.
The same weather conditions are expected on Sunday, though fresher air and bluer skies are expected in Western Washington as the smoke continues to blow away, along with isolated afternoon and evening mountain thunderstorms.
The chance of thunderstorms could linger in the mountains into the afternoon and into next week, but onshore breezes will likely bring more clouds to the lowlands of Western Washington each morning, with afternoon sunshine and highs in the 70s.
Aside from the threat of new wildfires, the coming forecast is very typical for Western Washington in mid-to-late August!
