WASHINGTON — After a damp and chilly end to the workweek, Western Washington is about to catch a break from the rain just in time for Halloween.
The upper-level low responsible for Friday’s showers will weaken and move away, allowing the showers to quickly diminish Friday night. That kicks off a stretch of cool but mainly dry weather through the weekend and into the first part of next week.
Most importantly for those heading out Saturday evening: trick-or-treat time looks dry!
But you’ll definitely want an extra layer underneath the costume. Temperatures across the lowlands will fall through the 40s during the evening, and winds should be light. In Seattle, we’re expecting a Saturday afternoon high in the lower 50s before temperatures drop Saturday night. That chilly weather means jackets may be competing with costumes by later in the evening.
And while the dry forecast is good news, remember that Halloween brings a lot more people onto neighborhood streets after dark. Drivers should slow down and be especially alert for children crossing streets. Trick-or-treaters should stick to sidewalks where available, cross at intersections and make themselves easier to see. Reflective tape, reflective clothing or carrying a flashlight or glow stick can help motorists spot kids in dark costumes.
It’ll be COLD this weekend in Western Washington too!
A Freeze Warning is in effect from midnight through 9 a.m. Saturday for the Middle Chehalis River Valley and the lowlands of Lewis and southern Thurston counties, including Chehalis, Centralia-area communities, Rochester, Grand Mound, Montesano and Elma. Temperatures there could fall to around 29 to 32 degrees.
A Frost Advisory is also in effect through 9 a.m. Saturday for a much broader portion of Western Washington, including parts of the Eastside, Kitsap Peninsula, North Sound and foothill communities. Temperatures as low as around 34 degrees could allow frost to develop.
So yes, there really could be frost on the pumpkins Halloween morning.
Sunday remains cool and dry. Morning fog and low clouds will be possible in spots, especially with chilly overnight temperatures and light winds, before skies improve during the day.
