GIG HARBOR, Wash. — The Gig Harbor Police Department is warning community members about a recent uptick in targeted phishing scams.
According to the department, the scheme involves fraudsters who pose as attorneys representing extended family members. The scammers demand immediate cash payments and offer to send couriers directly to residents’ homes to collect the money.
Police confirmed that these solicitations are a verified scam, reminding everyone that legitimate government agencies and law enforcement officers will never go to a home to collect cash payments, nor will they demand immediate payment using gift cards, cryptocurrency, or other unusual payment methods to resolve warrants, fines, or investigations.
