Georgetown Morgue Haunted House Returns for Spooky Season in Seattle

Georgetown Morgue

SEATTLE — Halloween season is here, and one of Seattle’s longest-running haunted attractions is once again welcoming thrill-seekers looking for a scare.

The Georgetown Morgue Haunted House is drawing crowds from around the region, with visitors lining up for hours to experience the popular seasonal event.

Owner Scott Kolling said the attraction has operated out of its current building for the past 19 years and has been scaring people across the Pacific Northwest for 35 years.

“We love scaring people. I got a great crew, great makeup department, and we’ve been preparing ourselves for this amazing season,” Kolling said.

The building itself adds to the eerie atmosphere. It was once used for funeral preparations and cremations before becoming a Halloween attraction.

While returning visitors may recognize much of the experience, Kolling said the haunted house changes every year.

“We do about a 30% change every year with the show,” Kolling said. “We just tweak it every year, add some new things to it.”

Preparing for the season takes a large team. Kolling said the Georgetown Morgue hires more than 100 temporary employees during the Halloween season and rotates between 25 and 50 scare actors throughout the run of the event.

KIRO 7 got a behind-the-scenes look at preparations, including makeup and costume work before the weekend.

Those planning a visit can purchase tickets online and take advantage of free parking. For visitors hoping to avoid long lines, Kolling highlighted another option.

“We do a blood drive every year. We do two or three of them during the season,” Kolling said. “If you give blood, they get to go to the front door after you bought a ticket.”

The Georgetown Morgue Haunted House will run through Nov. 7 in Seattle.
