Good news: The first storm of the season should be moving out of the area on Saturday. Bad news: Friday is looking windy, chilly, and rainy.
The forecast for the rest of this evening is cloudy and breezy as rain spreads over the area from the west. Rain has already arrived on the coast and the San Juan Islands and will spread over Puget Sound and the Cascades during the evening. Temperatures will drop to the 50s tonight.
Rain could accumulate to over a half inch or more in many places by Friday morning. Evening plans around Seattle should keep in mind that the rain may not be around for the beginning of your night out, but it will likely be raining on the way home.
A low-pressure area will move through tomorrow, and Friday looks windy, chilly, and rainy at times. There will likely be some breaks in the rain showers on Friday; however, the threat of showers and possibly a thunderstorm will continue throughout the day and into the evening.
Windy weather tomorrow will be most noticeable at the coast and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Gusts could exceed 40 mph at times. . Wind gusts around Puget Sound could jump to over 35 - 40 mph during the day .... especially around the thunderstorms that may develop. The stronger winds should die down by late afternoon on Friday.
As the storm moves through on Friday night, the snow level in the mountains will drop to 6,000 feet.
It’s possible that higher elevations in the Cascade Mountains will see a few inches of snow by Sunday morning. The snow level is not expected to drop to mountain pass elevation. Travel will be wet and windy over the passes but not snowy.
As mentioned, the weather should calm down and clear out during the day on Saturday. Skies will be partly sunny over the weekend, but it will be chilly. High temperatures will be in the lower 60s both weekend days.
Another weather system with a chance for rain arrives late Monday and Tuesday next week.
