2-alarm fire destroys abandoned house, cars in Maple Valley

MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. — A brush fire that spread to an abandoned house, other structures and several cars Wednesday in Maple Valley left nothing but destruction behind.

Crews with Puget Sound Fire were called at about 5:30 p.m. to the 24000 block of 241st Street, which was in a wooded area.

Chopper 7 flew over the scene and saw flames and smoke shooting in the air.

When the fire crew arrived, they reported they had an issue finding the best way to get to the fire. They found an abandoned camp type area with a structure and several cars on fire.

Officials said the fires had also spread to an abandoned house.

Crews were able to get water to one side of the fire from a nearby neighborhood but had to shuttle water down a dirt road from a remote location to get to another area of the fire, officials said. The challenge with getting water caused crews to initially fight the flames defensively.

Officials said 24 units and 50 firefighters were on scene to fight the massive flames.

Crews got the fire under control after 7 p.m.

The fire burned an acre of land, leaving behind devastation.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the fire or who may have seen anyone around the property to call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-296-3311.
