Federal Way officer shoots man armed with a knife at a motel

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Federal Way police said an officer shot a man at a motel off Pacific Highway South near 333rd Street on Tuesday morning.

A 911 call was made at 11:06 a.m. reporting a man broke windows and challenged people to fight.

Police said they arrived at the motel but couldn’t find the man.

Less than an hour later, more 911 calls came in saying the man returned, broke more windows, yelled and was armed with a knife.

A Federal Way officer arrived at the motel and contacted the manager.

Police said the man ran toward the officer and the motel manager with a knife and the officer shot the man.

The 41-year-old man lives in Tacoma and is currently in stable condition at Harbor View Medical Center.

Federal Way police said a knife was found at the scene.

The officer was put on paid administrative leave, which is the standard procedure until an investigation is complete.

The Valley Independent Investigation Team is in charge of the investigation and will deliver their findings to the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutors will decide if any charges will be filed against the officer.
