Father of 4-year-old found dead in apartment furious with mother, alleges child abuse

SEATTLE — Tragedy struck the Queen Anne neighborhood after 4-year-old KJ Ford was found dead inside the Queensborough apartments.

The child’s mother and her boyfriend were arrested and are believed to be responsible for his death.

Ford’s father, Chris Ford, tells KIRO 7 he called Child Protective Services numerous times about the mother’s behavior.

“And there were literally signs, too, that she was physically hurting him,” Ford said.

Both Chris Ford and his brother Clarence feared for his son’s life every time he stayed with his mother. Ford believes his son’s death was avoidable.

“She killed my ******  child. I don’t know what I would say to her,” Ford said.

“It’s just so sad how people can have kids, but they end up killing (them),” Clarence Ford, the child’s uncle, said.

But through the sadness, Chris Ford remembers the good times.

“When I was on the phone with him, like, this is the funniest thing I heard him say. He goes, ‘Dad, do you want to see my new toys?’ And he goes over (even though I’m not there) to just show me his toys,” Ford said.

Ford hopes both the mother and her boyfriend face justice for what they allegedly did.

“I hope she rots. I hope her boyfriend rots in there. Literally, they took away a baby that was so innocent,” Ford said.

KIRO 7 reached out to CPS about the mother’s alleged history.

Spokesperson and communications director Jason Wettstein sent this statement in response:

“We cannot provide comment on this matter. Child welfare records held by the Department of Children, Youth and Families are confidential under federal and state law, 42.U.S.C. §5106a (b)(2)(A) and RCW 13.50.100.”
