Everett water transmission line work will prompt water outage next week

EVERETT, Wash. — The City of Everett’s Public Works Department has been warning anyone who gets their water off Transmission Line #5, that there will be a temporary outage next week.

The work will install a new bypass and valve in case of an emergency and will affect businesses and homeowners starting next Wednesday and lasting until Friday.

Mark Sadler with Everett Public Works says Transmission Line #5 is one of the lines servicing south Snohomish County. He says mailers have been going out since last month.

“This is maintenance on a 50 year-old pipeline, and a 50-year-old valve that needs a redundant valve on a redundant parallel line to increase service and reliability of our transmission system,” Sadler said. “If you’re going to be impacted by this, you should be prepared, have water storage for yourself for drinking water, and water for your animals, and hygiene and bathroom, etcetera."

Water service directly into the City of Everett will not be directly impacted, neither will households or businesses who buy the water wholesale. Only those who get water directly from the line should be impacted. That includes water systems without storage connected in the impacted area of the transmission line, a city spokeswoman said.

“If you’re connected to a larger provider, say city of Snohomish, city of Monroe, Roosevelt or Highland district, you’ll have water storage, so you need to contact your water provider,” Sadler says.
