Everett Transit merger with Community Transit receives official approval

EVERETT, Wash. — A merger of Everett Transit with Community Transit was officially approved following unanimous votes by the Community Transit Board of Directors and the Everett City Council Thursday, said Snohomish County Transportation Coalition (Snotrac).

Under the agreement, Community Transit will become the primary public transit provider in Everett, with bus service hours in the city projected to increase by 50% by 2031.

The expansion of transit service will be funded by raising Everett’s local transit sales tax from 0.6% to 1.2%, bringing transit funding in Everett to the same level applied in other Snohomish County cities, Snotrac said.

They say the tax increase follows similar voter-approved transit funding measures in Spokane, Pierce County and Seattle.

They say the consolidated service will provide buses arriving every 15 minutes, simplified transfers, stronger connections to Swift bus rapid transit and Link light rail, and a new Zip Shuttle microtransit service.
