After receiving over 350 adoption applications for the 42 West Highland Terriers removed from a man who said he planned to sell them at the border, Everett Animal Shelter says it is trying to turn this spotlight moment into results for other dogs still needing homes.

In a Facebook post, the shelter said that while all the Westies have found homes, many dogs are still there “who are just as adorable, just as lovable, and totally ready for their moment in the spotlight.”

Hoping to keep up the momentum, the shelter says it is waiving adoption fees on some animals 2- 5 pm Friday, October 23, and Saturday, October 24.

“Come meet your new best friend, whether they’re Westie-ish, Westie-adjacent, or proudly Not-a-Westie, and help countless others at the same time,” the shelter said.
