Employee at Kirkland car dealership injured in a fire

KIRKLAND, Wash. — An employee of a Kirkland car dealership was taken to Harborview Medical Center after being injured in a fire Monday evening.

According to a release from the city, firefighters were called to Volkswagen of Kirkland at about 6 p.m. for a report of an explosion.

An employee of the dealership was vaping in a designated smoking area, near some empty 55-gallon drum containers that had once contained flammable liquid, the release stated.

The employee suffered injuries due to a fire that had started and was taken to the hospital by medics.

The extent of the employee’s injuries is unknown.

Officials said there was no damage reported to the dealership.

The investigation is ongoing.
