SEATTLE — Starting Saturday, about 98,000 vehicles will have to find a new way around.
The Eastbound State Route 520 off-ramp to Montlake in Seattle will be closed for about a week.
Crews with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) are staging equipment to remove portions of the old off-ramp from the 60s. It was closed back in June.
Crews need to close the new temporary off-ramp so they have enough space to safely remove the old one. The old off-ramp must be removed now to prepare for a future traffic shift in early 2027.
The ramp will close a few hours after the UW Huskies football game on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. and will remain closed until 8 a.m. the following Saturday, September 19.
If people enter eastbound SR 520 from I-5, they will have to cross Lake Washington before turning around and taking westbound SR 520 to exit at Montlake. Please note this will result in paying the SR 520 Bridge Toll twice.
There are a few alternate routes people can take.
Those heading north on I-5 can take the Lakeview Boulevard exit south of the exit to eastbound SR 520 and head east.
Southbound drivers can exit either at NE 45th Street or NE 50th Street on I-5 and head east or take the Boylston Avenue exit.
Keep in mind that there will be some backups since this is a major ramp, so plan ahead and expect delays.
