TACOMA, Wash. — Dutch Bros Coffee is brewing plans for the chain’s first Tacoma location. The new store is anticipated to be at 7605 S. Hosmer St.

The company has filed a pre-application permit for a Jack in the Box location that has sat empty since 2024, The Puget Sound Business Journal reported.

But good coffee takes time. Construction for the site is not anticipated until Jan. 30, 2028, according to the permit filings.

The new store would be the sixth location for Pierce County. Current stores are in Fife, Puyallup, Graham, and Lakewood, according to the coffee company’s store locator.

Dutch Bros Coffee timeline

Dane and Travis Boersma founded Dutch Bros in Grants Pass, Oregon, in 1992. The two loved to rock out to their favorite music while serving their community.

By 2000, a Dutch Bros expansion took off, and by 2012, the Dutch Bros Blue Rebel energy drink launched on the menu.

By 2021, the company expanded to Texas and Oklahoma. More on the history of the company can be found on the Dutch Bros Coffee website.

The company announced in 2025 they would be moving its headquarters from Oregon to Tempe, Arizona, as expansion continued, The Puget Sound Business Journal reported.

Dutch Bros in WA

Dutch Bros Coffee is also in the early stages of its first Seattle location. The company aims to convert a 1,750-square-foot space at 4115 4th Ave. S in Seattle’s industrial district.

This location has plans to decrease wait times with employees greeting customers at their vehicles with handheld devices to take orders.

Other nearby locations are in Renton, Federal Way, Everett, and Marysville.

Currently, Dutch Bros Coffee has 74 locations in Washington and 157 in Oregon.

Coffee conundrum

While Starbucks scales back in parts of Washington and relocates corporate employees to Knoxville, Dutch Bros Coffee continues to expand across the state and the broader United States.

Despite Starbucks’ cutbacks, Starbucks has 566 stores in Washington compared to 74 Washington Dutch Bros locations.
