Driver strikes trooper’s patrol vehicle during a stop

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — A state trooper’s patrol vehicle was struck by a car on I-5 near Lynnwood on Saturday.

The trooper had pulled over a motorist when a second car swerved onto the shoulder, striking the patrol vehicle, troopers said.

The trooper was not injured, but the driver suffered minor injuries.

State police said the driver was not impaired and appears to have fallen asleep at the wheel.

The driver was cited for second-degree negligent driving.

The incident remains under investigation.
