SEATTLE — A man is dead after crashing into a tree late Wednesday in Seattle’s Beacon Hill neighborhood.
Police said just before 11 p.m. multiple people called 911 to report a driver had crashed into a tree in the 1800 block of 15th Avenue South.
When first responders arrived, they found a 54-year-old driver dead.
Investigators determined the driver was going southbound on 15th Avenue and struck a utility pole on the west side of the street and then crossed the centerline and crashed into a tree on the east side of the street, officials said.
According to detectives, excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
