Driver dies in collision in Puyallup

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — A 63-year-old driver of an SUV died in a collision on Friday night in Puyallup, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department reported.

The crash happened at the intersection of West Pioneer Street and 72nd Street East and Woodland Avenue.

Authorities said a video of the crash shows a white sedan speeding and running a red light and then hitting a small SUV on the passenger side. A 63-year-old woman died at the scene.

The 47-year-old driver of the sedan had to be extricated. He and his female passenger were taken to the hospital.

Deputies said they are trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, which is being investigated as vehicular homicide.

The name of the victim has not been released yet.

The crash remains under investigation.
