Divers Institute of Technology faces protest from students, faculty

Student protest DIT

SEATTLE, Wash. — Instructors at the Divers Institute of Technology say they have gone on strike amid allegations of safety concerns and disagreements with school leadership.

A statement from student organizers sent to KIRO 7 alleges instructors are raising safety concerns and what it describes as overreach by Executive Director Dave Ruggieri and Director of Compliance Michelle Perrigo.

The statement also alleges students have been given misleading information about the situation and claims the school is falsifying attendance records connected to VA benefits.

KIRO 7 has not independently verified these allegations.

Students began protesting outside the Divers Institute of Technology Thursday morning. Pictures sent to KIRO 7 show students protesting near Gas Works Park in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood.

One viewer who contacted our newsroom also said multiple students have posted Google reviews describing similar concerns.

KIRO 7 reached out to the Divers Institute of Technology for comment on the allegations and the reported instructor strike but has not received a response.
