A man was rescued from a burning car in Poulsbo Sept. 21 after it crashed during the driver’s attempt to evade police.
According to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was going approximately 20 mph over the speed limit on Highway 104. When deputies tried to pull him over at 10:30 p.m. Monday, he fled and reportedly reached 111 mph.
The deputies lost the driver, but quickly tracked down the vehicle, an SUV, billowing in flames near Miller Bay Road NE.
The sheriff’s office reported the driver crashed through a fence and hit a tractor before the vehicle burst into flames. When deputies arrived, they heard the driver screaming for help.
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office posted body cam video footage of the rescue.
The man was airlifted to a nearby hospital due to the extent of his injuries. He faces multiple charges, including attempting to elude an officer and reckless driving.
