Police say fatal Burien shooting appears to be random

BURIEN, Wash. — Deputies are investigating what they believe was a random shooting that killed a man in Burien Tuesday night.

The shooting happened in the 12600 block of First Avenue South at Puget Sound Park, next to a Safeway store, around 9:30 p.m.

The victim, a 22-year-old man, had been walking a dog in the park with his sister and a female friend. When they got back in their car, the suspect approached and asked them for marijuana, according to the women.

When the victim said he didn't have any, the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot him twice, the women said.

The victim, identified as Edwin D. Lopez, died at the scene.

Investigators said the suspect, 23-year-old Adolf Frand Fei, was driven from the park and then got out of the vehicle about two blocks away.

On Friday, Fre was charged by the King County Prosecutor's office with Murder in the second degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

Patrolling officers saw a man matching the suspect's description and took him into custody.

A handgun was found a short distance away.

Detectives said the two men did not know each other and that the shooting is believed to have been random.

Fei was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of murder. He has several criminal convictions, including assault and robbery, and as a felon, is not allowed to have a gun.

Family members say Lopez worked at the Seattle Great Wheel and was studying to be an electrician.
