Seattle police arrest man for arson in Queen Anne neighborhood

SEATTLE — Crews responded to two separate fires located just 1.5 blocks apart in Queen Anne early Wednesday morning.

While crews were driving to the scene, they spotted two columns of smoke and divided their resources. The second and larger fire was at Highland Drive and Taylor Avenue North in a garage attached to a house that appears to be vacant.

Crews spent several hours at the scene getting both fires under control and putting out hot spots.

Fire investigators determined that both fires were intentionally set and estimated damages to the building under construction is estimated to be $200K. The investigation has been turned over to Seattle police, who will continue to follow up on the incident.

Around 3 a.m., witnesses told police they saw a man yelling and upending a portable toilet in the Highland Drive construction site.

Another witness told police they saw a man leaving the scene on a scooter as flames went up at the construction site.

Seattle police found the 25-year-old man and took him into custody.
