Construction, sporting events to cause travel headaches around Seattle this weekend

SEATTLE — At Sound Transit’s Westlake light rail station, the complaints from passengers keep coming.

Link trains are still down to a single track after workers on the street above accidentally poked a hole in the ceiling last week.

Trains now come every 15 minutes instead of every 10, and all passengers need to transfer in Pioneer Square.

“I can’t even imagine what it’s going to be like this weekend with the games, that’s going to be wild,” passenger Fernanda Lopez said Friday.

The Kraken, Mariners, OL Reign and Sounders all play in Seattle this weekend.

Sound Transit urges riders to leave extra time.

“It is going to be a tough weekend. We apologize in advance. The outage was unplanned we had to do it for safety reasons,” said agency spokesperson John Gallagher.

Sound Transit hopes to restore full service in about a week.

Another hole, in the ramp between the West Seattle Bridge and northbound State Route 99,  means traffic on the ramp won’t return until late next week.

The Montlake bridge will close Saturday for opening day of boating season, and there will be construction lane closures on Interstate 90 near Issaquah and on northbound I-5 through downtown Seattle.

The South Lake Union Streetcar will also be closed for maintenance this weekend.
