RENTON, Wash. — A proposed ordinance to ban camping on city property in Renton had its final reading but did not go to a vote Monday night.
Ordinance 6199 would amend the Renton Municipal Code and restrict tents and tarps from being set up on city property.
The ordinance would also prohibit unauthorized property storage, shopping cart possession, and enact trespass zones.
Repeat violators could be charged with a misdemeanor, potentially leading to 90 days in jail, a $1000 fine, or both.
Instead of voting on the proposed ordinance, Renton City Council members voted Monday night to send it to the Committee of a Whole for further review.
The Committee of a Whole is scheduled to meet on September 21.
