A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that 13 cases of Candida auris, a drug-resistant fungus that spreads most easily and often in healthcare facilities, have been reported in Washington so far this year.
The report shows that Washington and California are the only two states in the center’s pacific region that have reported cases of the fungus.
According to the CDC, while the fungus can lead to deadly diseases, fatalities are most likely in those who are “already very sick” before they contract the fungus.
