INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. — Nearly a million in counterfeit cash was seized Friday at the International Falls Port of Entry in Minnesota, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers with the Seattle Field Office said.
Officials said the counterfeit money was found on a commercial rail shipment that originated from China.
A rail container was referred for inspection and during the examination, CBP officers discovered 45 cartons of possible counterfeit bills in the form of $1, which were found to be counterfeit by the U.S. Secret Service, officials said.
“CBP officers strive every day to protect the United States from a variety of threats,” said Jason Schmelz, Pembina Area Port Director. "Those threats don’t always come in the form of terrorists or narcotics, but also in the form of counterfeit currency and other goods that have the potential to harm the economy of the United States.
