Car thief slides into tree while trying to flee from police

LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Lakewood police officers said they arrested a car thief who was thwarted by slippery roads on Tuesday.

The Toyota SUV was stolen during a delivery to a coffee stand. A barista alerted Lakewood police, who followed the car to the 8600 block of Hosmer Street.

Police said the suspect slid into a tree while trying to get away, and then ran from the scene after the crash.

A K-9 was used to track the suspect, who was arrested and booked into jail.

Though the SUV was dented, police said the owner was grateful to have it back.
