Car goes through fence, hits parked vehicles in fiery Renton crash

RENTON, Wash. — Police said a driver escaped serious injuries after a fiery, wrong-way crash in Renton.

It happened just after 3 a.m. Friday near Southwest Sixth Street and Rainier Avenue South.

Witnesses said the car was going more than 100 mph on Rainier.

Craig Sousy with Renton Regional Fire Authority said the car was heading southbound on Rainier in the northbound lanes. The driver lost control of the car near Fifth Street, hit a street light, rolled through the IHOP parking lot and then came to a rest at a Toyota dealership near Sixth Street, where it burst into flames, according to Renton police.

The driver also crashed through a fence and struck several cars at the dealership.

When firefighters arrived, the car was engulfed in flames, but the driver was able to get out on his own and had only minor injuries.

He was taken to Harborview Medical Center as a precaution.

The driver, a 35-year-old Bellevue man, appears to have a record of reckless driving incidents, as his Department of Licensing record shows a required interlock device, according to police.

Anyone with additional information or video is asked to call the Renton Police Department at 425-235-2121 and reference case #19-10399.
