SEATTLE — One of Seattle’s biggest festivals is returning to Seattle Center this Labor Day weekend. Bumbershoot Arts and Music Festival is expected to bring tens of thousands of people to the area for two days of live music, food, and arts experiences.
According to Aaron Starkey, director of business operations for New Rising Sun, festivalgoers can expect a wide range of musical performances from major headliners and Pacific Northwest favorites.
“If you’re coming out this weekend, you can expect a pretty astounding array of music from the big headliners like Death Cab, Pacific Northwest favorites, Turnstile, Sera Cahoone, etc.,” Starkey said. “It’s really an incredible music lineup, but you can also expect a culinary experience.”
In addition to the music, attendees will be able to sample food from across the Pacific Northwest. The festival will also feature a variety of art-focused attractions.
“We have a huge skate ramp, where this year we have BMX riders. We have a fashion district with a fashion runway,” Starkey said. “Believe it or not, we have a mermaid. So, if you needed to see a mermaid this weekend live, we have that.”
A new addition this year is a “sip and stroll” experience, allowing attendees to take their drinks and walk around the festival grounds.
Starkey said Bumbershoot remains a long-standing Seattle tradition and is easily accessible by public transportation.
“This is Seattle’s Arts and Music Festival. It happens at the Seattle Center. It’s right there. It’s in your neighborhood,” Starkey said. “You can take the bus, you can take light rail, you can take the monorail. It’s kind of built into the fabric of the city over the last 50 years.”
Festival demand has been strong. Organizers said Saturday is already sold out, and only a limited number of tickets remain available for Sunday.
