Arlington officers injured in crash with suspected drunken driver

ARLINGTON, Wash. — Two Arlington police officers were injured in a crash with a woman suspected of driving under the influence.

The Washington State Patrol said that around 1:42 a.m. Thursday, a driver traveling with her headlights off struck the officers’ police SUV on State Route 530 just west of Smokey Point Boulevard.

Investigators said the officers were westbound in the center turn lane trying to make a left turn into a parking lot when a driver traveling eastbound hit the passenger side of their police SUV.

The two injured officers are a field training officer and an officer who was in training.

The driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.

Both officers and the 24-year-old Arlington woman who was driving were taken to Cascade Valley Hospital with minor injuries. The officers have been released from the hospital.

Part of SR 530 and Smokey Point Boulevard was closed for the investigation but has since reopened.
