Boy suspected of stabbing another boy; police searching for suspect’s father

MILL CREEK, Wash. — Police are searching for a father after they say his 12-year-old son stabbed another 12-year-old boy Wednesday night at a Mill Creek apartment.

Before 11:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a stabbing at the Heatherwood Apartments in the 13500 block North Creek Drive.

Investigators said a 12-year-old boy was stabbed in the bicep, wrist and finger. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

Police said the victim and witnesses reported that the father of the 12-year-old suspect ran up to the victim, grabbed and started punching him.

“The stabbing suspect then began punching and stabbing the victim while the father held the victim down,” police said in a news release.

Officers found the suspect in his apartment, arrested him on suspicion of first-degree assault and booked him into the Denny Youth Center.

A knife was recovered from the scene.

Investigators said the suspect's father ran away before police arrived.

Police identified him as 43-year-old Martinez D. Mitchell. He is described as being African American, 6 feet tall, and weighing approximately 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

He has multiple tattoos, including tattoos on his upper chest and the left side of his neck. Mitchell was last seen wearing a black hoodie.

Police said Mitchell is known to frequent the Tulalip/Marysville and Tukwila areas. He has a long criminal history and should be considered dangerous.

Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911 or anyone who has information about the stabbing is asked to call Detective Sgt. Stan White at 425-921-5762 or send an email to investigations@cityofmillcreek.com.
